DIY: Geometric Embroidered Painting

vibrant blue and yellow geometric painting.png

Growing up, my parents never wanted us to put anything up on our walls. I guess they didn't want to have to repaint. Being a creative person at heart, I always found it sad. If only I had known then what I know now, I have a feeling my bedroom would have looked very different.

Who said you needed to stick things on your walls or hang things up? I mean, yes, it's preferable because otherwise your walls look naked, but you can just as easily add a few colorful decorative items on you shelf, desk and side table (handmade or otherwise) to do the trick.

I designed a simple abstract painting for my son's room, something special that doesn't need to be hung on the wall, although it could. I bought most of my tools and materials at the dollar store, so I guess it's a dollar store craft. I'd say in total I paid around $5 for everything, plus I can reuse most of the stuff again in the future. Totally a win/win situation I've got going!

I'm so happy with how this project turned out. It adds a much needed punch of colors to my son's room. I still have a long way to go before I'm done decorating his room, and I'll probably have to start all over again when it is (you know, growing up and stuff...), but I'm having so much fun coming up with easy projects that I don't mind. Plus, when we get to redo the decorations, my kids will probably be able to help, so these crafts will become family activities. :)

Do you have any colorful decorative items in your room?

Life Lately

Where to start, so much has happened lately...

Lately...we attended my sister's wedding. It was absolutely amazing. She never ceases to amaze me with all her skills and hard work. She made everything for her wedding; from the decor to the games, the mass booklet and the invitations. I love you little sister, and I am very proud of you.

Lately...we welcomed home a 4th member to our family. Yup, I delivered my baby. I'll be posting his birth story soon.

Lately...I bought a 50mm f1.4 lens for my Canon DSLR and I absolutely love it. It's a bit of a learning curve, but I feel like my photography is about to hit another level.

Lately...I attended my very first blogging conference hosted by Made in Blog. It was a wonderful experience. I learned a whole bunch and got to meet some amazing local bloggers. Most importantly, I learned that blogging is about staying authentic and true to yourself, without comparison or competition.

Lately...we celebrated my first son's second birthday. He's 2 already, isn't that crazy? When people say time flies and children grow up too fast... it's true! I really have to start appreciating each little moment more. Anyway, I have a whole series of posts coming up on things I made/prepared for his birthday so stay tuned; the first of the series was my eggless white cake recipe, which is amazing by the way, so you should definitely try it out.

Lately...I started thinning out our garden and we enjoyed some very strong tasting radishes. My son was a little shocked.

Lately...I've been taking the Blog Life course by A Beautiful Mess and I love it! I haven't completed much of it yet because I've been very busy, but I've started planning a bit more what I want to blog about and how I want to organize it. I intend to start documenting my home decorating, give some family insights as well as many DIY projects. Lots of new stuff to comes so stay tuned.

Lately...we spent a lot of time outdoors. The winter was so long this year that every opportunity we get to go outside, we do. We went to Park Safari and loved it. As a matter of fact, our car almost got eaten by a camel. It was awesome. We also spent a day at the beach and had a picnic at a local park. We also started some work on our yard and cooked BBQ.

Eggless White Vanilla Cupcake

Super easy, moist and delicious egg free (no eggs!) white vanilla cake recipe used for cupcakes. Perfect for those with egg allergies or for a baby's first birthday. Share with all your friends! Click through for recipe.

Last weekend was my son's 2nd birthday. I have a 2 year old son!!! I'm unbelievably proud to be the mom of such a good and sweet boy. In honor of his birthday, considering his egg allergy, I had to come up with an egg free cake recipe. All of the ones I found on the internet weren't simple enough for me, so I decided to make my own. I have to say I am more than satisfied with my recipe; it's moist, fluffy, and delicious.

Why do we even use eggs in almost every baking recipe? I know the white acts as a leavening agent and the yellow helps everything stick together, but I always wondered if we could do without. I figured a bit more baking powder and a bit of fruit puree or yogurt would do the trick (minus the protein and nutrients found in the eggs). The good news... it does! This eggless vanilla cake recipe is super yummy.

If you know anyone with an egg allergy, or simply want to make a cake for a baby's first birthday, this recipe is perfect! You can vary the flavor by changing the type of extract you use.

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup Butter (salted)
1 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Plain yogurt
1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup Flour
3 tsp Baking powder
3/4 cup Milk

Prep: 10 minutes
Bake: 30 minutes
Oven: 350F
Portions: 10

Ingredients for egg free vanilla white cupcakes (cake); flour, yogurt, butter, milk, sugar, baking powder, vanilla.

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven at 350F and prepare molds.
2. Cream butter, sugar and yogurt. Add vanilla extract.
3. In separate bowl, mix flour and baking powder.
4. Mix flour mixture and milk alternatively into butter mixture. Do not over mix.
5. Pour into molds (to about 3/4 of the cup) and bake for 30 minutes.

I have to be honest with you, these are simply amazing. Yes, I'm bragging, but when someone's first reaction is: "Wow, these are better than cupcakes with eggs." You can't help jump with joy. Yay! :)
